Terms of Use.

01Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to Riddle ("the App"), developed and operated by Llaps Digital ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Your continued use of the App following any changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

02Description of Service

Riddle is a daily riddle and brain training application that:

  • Delivers one curated riddle per day, refreshed at midnight in the user's local timezone
  • Tags every riddle across five cognitive dimensions ("5D Framework": Mechanism, Subject, Cognitive Skill, Tone, Answer Structure) and tracks your progress per dimension
  • Supports multiple input methods (text field, number pad, multiple choice, reveal & self-check, drag & order) with fuzzy answer matching and synonym detection
  • Provides a 3-tier hint system, backup riddles, login and win streaks, XP and leveling, and an achievements system
  • Offers a Practice mode for replaying riddles by dimension and (on eligible tiers) a Tomorrow Preview
  • Offers an Explore mode for browsing the 5D categories
  • Syncs your progress across your own iPhone and iPad via Apple's CloudKit service, using your personal iCloud account
  • Displays rewarded video advertisements served by Google AdMob (Google LLC), which you may watch to earn hints or backup powerups
  • Sells auto-renewable subscriptions through Apple's App Store (StoreKit 2) that grant ad-free play, unlimited hints, and other premium features

03Age Requirements

You must be at least 13 years of age to use this App. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you are at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's permission to use the App and to make any in-app purchases.

04User Accounts and Registration

Riddle does not require user registration or account creation. All preferences and progress are stored locally on your device using SwiftData, and synchronized across your own devices via your personal iCloud account using CloudKit. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and your Apple ID.

05Riddle Content and Gameplay

5.1 Nature of Riddle Content

Riddles displayed in the App are designed for entertainment, brain training, and education. While we attempt to ensure that answer validation, hint logic, and difficulty calibration are reasonable, the App is provided for recreational purposes and:

  • Riddles, hints, and answer keys are not professional advice of any kind
  • Difficulty ratings and 5D categorizations reflect editorial judgment, not objective measurements
  • Fuzzy matching and synonym detection are heuristics and may occasionally accept or reject answers in ways you disagree with

5.2 No Professional Advice

The App is not a substitute for educational curricula, IQ assessments, cognitive therapy, medical evaluation, or any other professional service. Performance metrics inside the App (XP, level, streaks, dimension scores) are gameplay constructs and have no clinical, diagnostic, or academic standing.

5.3 Your Responsibilities

You agree not to:

  • Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer the answer database, scrape riddle content, or redistribute it
  • Misrepresent the App's gameplay metrics as objective measures of intelligence or skill
  • Use the App to harass, defame, or mislead others

06CloudKit Sync and Your Apple ID

Cross-device sync uses Apple's CloudKit service, which requires that you are signed into iCloud and have iCloud enabled for Riddle.

  • Synced data is written to your private CloudKit database, tied to your Apple ID
  • Llaps Digital cannot read, access, or export your private CloudKit data
  • If you sign out of iCloud, disable iCloud for Riddle, or use the App on a device where iCloud is unavailable, sync will not occur and your progress will remain local to that device
  • You can remove synced data at any time via iOS Settings, or by deleting the App with the option to remove iCloud data

CloudKit operates under Apple's terms and privacy policy. Llaps Digital is not responsible for outages, data loss, or limitations of Apple's iCloud infrastructure.

07Third-Party Services

7.1 Google AdMob (Advertising)

The App integrates Google AdMob (Google LLC) to serve rewarded video advertisements. Watching a rewarded ad grants in-app benefits such as a hint or backup powerup. By using the App, you acknowledge that:

  • Google AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, approximate location, ad-interaction data, and other signals to serve and measure ads
  • Ad personalization is subject to your App Tracking Transparency (ATT) choice. If you ask the App not to track, only non-personalized (contextual) ads will be served
  • You can change your ATT choice at any time via iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking › Riddle
  • Ad content is determined by Google and not controlled by Llaps Digital
  • Google AdMob is governed by Google's Privacy Policy

7.2 Apple Services

The App relies on first-party Apple services including iCloud (via CloudKit), StoreKit (for in-app purchases and subscriptions), and User Notifications. Your use of these services is also governed by Apple's terms.

08In-App Purchases and Advertisements

8.1 Free Features

The App offers the following without payment:

  • One daily riddle every day
  • Full progression system (XP, levels, streaks, 5D Framework tracking)
  • Practice mode and Explore mode
  • Achievements
  • Watching rewarded video ads to earn hints and backup powerups

8.2 Auto-Renewable Subscriptions

The App offers three auto-renewable subscription tiers, sold through the App Store:

  • Riddler — $2.99 USD per month (or local equivalent). Removes ads. Unlimited hints.
  • Sage — $4.99 USD per month (or local equivalent). Everything in Riddler, plus unlimited backup riddles and Tomorrow Preview.
  • Mastermind — $9.99 USD per month (or local equivalent). Everything in Sage, plus exclusive riddles and premium support.

Subscription terms required by Apple:

  • Payment will be charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the then-current price of the subscription.
  • Subscriptions may be managed by you, and auto-renewal may be turned off, by going to your Apple ID Account Settings (iOS Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions) after purchase.
  • No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during the active subscription period. You retain access until the end of the paid period.
  • Any unused portion of a free trial period (if offered) will be forfeited when you purchase a paid subscription, where applicable.

8.3 Restoring Purchases

Active subscriptions are tied to your Apple ID and can be restored on other devices signed into the same Apple ID via the "Restore Purchases" action inside the App's Settings screen.

8.4 Refunds

All sales are final except as required by applicable law or Apple's refund policies. Refund requests must be directed to Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com — Llaps Digital does not have the ability to process App Store refunds.

8.5 Payment Processing

All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. Apple's terms and conditions apply to all transactions. We do not have access to your payment information.

09Intellectual Property

9.1 Our Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, riddle database, 5D Framework taxonomy, custom typography choices, illustrations, and branding, is owned by Llaps Digital and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not:

  • Copy, modify, or distribute the App or its components
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
  • Scrape, extract, or republish the riddle database or answer keys
  • Remove any copyright or proprietary notices
  • Use our trademarks without written permission

9.2 Personal Use License

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, Llaps Digital grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the App on Apple devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use.

10Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App, its systems, or any associated infrastructure
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App's functionality
  • Use automated systems (bots, scrapers, emulators) to interact with the App or its advertising flow
  • Manipulate the rewarded-ad system to obtain rewards without genuinely viewing ads
  • Redistribute or republish riddle content from the App without authorization
  • Misrepresent in-app metrics (XP, level, streaks, dimension scores) as objective psychological, educational, or clinical measurements

11Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY
  • FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
  • NON-INFRINGEMENT
  • ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS OF RIDDLE CONTENT, HINTS, OR ANSWER VALIDATION

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE
  • ICLOUD SYNC WILL ALWAYS SUCCEED OR PRESERVE DATA WITHOUT CONFLICT
  • ANSWER VALIDATION, FUZZY MATCHING, OR SYNONYM DETECTION WILL ACCEPT EVERY VALID ANSWER OR REJECT EVERY INVALID ONE
  • REWARDED ADS WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE TO FILL OR WILL ALWAYS PLAY TO COMPLETION
  • THIRD-PARTY SERVICES (GOOGLE ADMOB, APPLE STOREKIT, APPLE CLOUDKIT) WILL OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION OR ERROR

12Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LLAPS DIGITAL AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES
  • ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES
  • DAMAGES RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP
  • LOSS, CORRUPTION, OR FAILURE TO SYNCHRONIZE PROGRESS DATA VIA ICLOUD
  • DAMAGES RESULTING FROM ANY CONTENT OF ADVERTISEMENTS SERVED THROUGH THE APP
  • ANY ACTIONS OR DATA PRACTICES OF THIRD-PARTY SDKS INCLUDING GOOGLE ADMOB
  • ANY DECISIONS YOU MAKE BASED ON IN-APP METRICS (XP, LEVELS, STREAKS, DIMENSION SCORES)

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $10.00, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

13Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Llaps Digital and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the App
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of any third party
  • Any content you generate or share using the App (for example, screenshots of riddles posted to social media)

14Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including breach of these Terms.

You may terminate your use of the App at any time by deleting it from your device. Upon termination, locally stored data will be deleted. iCloud-synced data persists in your private iCloud account until you separately remove it through iOS Settings.

Termination does not entitle you to a refund for any unused portion of an active subscription period; subscription cancellation is handled by Apple as described in Section 8.

15Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

You agree to waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.

16Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

17Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Llaps Digital regarding your use of the App and supersede any prior agreements.
